The Norfolk Horse Training and Equitation Club (NHTEC) were formerly known as the Norfolk Natural Horse Group (NNHG) and were founded in April 2003.

NHTEC changed its name in February 2007 to reflect the development of the group. We all accept that it is not 'natural' for horse's to have interface with humans! Therefore for the sake of clarity and transparency, in all that we promote, we felt we should remove the word ‘natural’ from our name - to say it like it is! a horse-training club!

Our Club's role over the years, has evolved, due to demand. Today we are a friendly and enthusiastic education/development and training group, in 2008 we became a member of the British Horse Society's Riding Clubs.

We provide our members with educational support, in-house training clinics, plus the chance to take part in non-competitive, fun activities. NHTEC encourages members to develop their skills and personal challenges in clinics and workshops that are held in a friendly and safe environment without the added pressure of competition.

We firmly believe that all owners/handlers should develop their groundwork skills to aid in the joint communication/training of their equines. Our methods of delivery for both groundwork and riding are simple and easy to understand, we use methods that do not promote conflict and do not compromise the health of the horse. The methods we use are based upon applied equine ethology and learning theory - in short we use the genetic make-up of the horse and the horses individual ability to learn, to aid us in effective training. All training concepts that we promote are based on equine science research they include positive and negative reinforcement, clicker, understanding pressure and release, riding for mutual posture etc.

We also offer free advice to our members on equine behaviour, care and management, so that they are better able, (whatever their circumstances) to provide an environment as close to the way nature intended.

LIVING WITH HORSES!

They must obey us when they are with us,

BUT, at all other times,

LET THEM BE HORSES!

The club usually meets once a month and organises demonstrations and teaching days using in-house and visiting equine experts who specialise in different fields of horse care and training. Most training events take place at the clubs home venue at Running Free Farm, Church Road, Aylmerton, North Norfolk, click here to view some of our facilities and for directions. We are currently looking at organising some of our events at other venues in Norfolk - do let us know of a venue near you!

DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS BEHAVIOUR - The methods that we use, work! Our owners have had great success with horses that have had extreme/dangerous behaviour problems, obviously these horses need to be dealt with individually, initially, for safety reasons! - before they can join in with group clinics.

Please contact us if you need individual help.

Extreme behaviour often starts with minor conflict behaviour, all adverse behaviour should be dealt with and the horse retrained promptly.

Owners and veterinary surgeons share a responsibility to recognise when there is a behaviour issue that should be retrained, in order to prevent accidents and injury - which obviously also have serious implications to the welfare of the horse. For example: it is not acceptable to have horses regularly sedated to have their feet shod/trimmed when this problem could be retrained.
